Call it whatever you like....

Since I have been young, I have always wanted to be great; always wanted to be many things. I am like a lot of women out there but not exactly. I see a lot of women give up their dreams for so many reasons which may be reasonable or not but that is not the point. We all have in each of us a uniqueness that no one else has and that is what makes us different. I do what I do because I want to do it and not because I have to do it. I live my life how I want to, making my own decisions and accepting the consequences. You may call it arrogance but I call it confidence; self belief. Giving up a dream just to please someone or because the “society” where I come from will be more comfortable with it is not an excuse. It is time to put your foot down and focus yourself. This message goes out to all the unique ladies who are afraid to come out from their shadows. You may find it worthwhile to pay attention to the inner voice inside you. I may not accomplish everything I have set out to accomplish in life but then, I will be at peace knowing that I tried and not wondering what if I had tried. Come on WOMAN what is standing between you and your dreams?

But then again, the sad thing is that we have forgotten how to dream. Keeping up with new trend in fashion and knowing “what’s up” is now the definition of living, when in truth we barely exist.  Nobody has the time to think anymore. Like Henry Ford said “thinking is the hardest part there is and that is why so many people do not engage in it”. It is time to take a break and think of what we can do to make the world a better place. It could be through music, fashion but whatever it is, do not forget to do it with passion.

With everything said we must still bear our priorities in mind. In achieving your aim, in reaching your goals do you compromise those priorities? The bridge you burn today can you rebuild tomorrow? This particular topic may seem confusing to many people but the lesson lies beneath the lines. The truth you’ll find between the gaps. Yet, the wisdom remains in balancing things!!!

Love,

Lily.

THAT’S MY STORY...AND AM STICKING TO IT
WHATS YOURS????

It was a nice morning in May. I was in my home village in Bosnia. I was about to have breakfast. I often heard people talking about the war going on around us but I could not imagine it happening to me. That morning it did and it turned my life upside down. The soldiers came to our compound and took my Daddy away with other men. I was crying. All the women and children were taken to a camp and we stayed there for two weeks. Later they let us go to our village. Back to burnt houses, back to nothing. Sometimes I have nightmares and think that the soldiers are coming to get me again . . .

That’s the story of a 13year old refugee girl from Bosnia. Unfortunately, this story relates to many people you find out there .Waking up one morning only to find out that your dreams have been deferred. You think to yourself, in five years time where will I be? It’s like every hope has been dashed away. Guess what??? ...you are not alone. I was watching one episode of The Monique show on BET one Thursday afternoon.Incidentally; she had Korto Momolu, one of the contestants in the Project Runway series as her guest. There she told the story of how she rose from grass to grace. Her family was forced to leave Liberia during the civil war in the 90’s and they became refugees in Canada. At the age of 16, she had to abandon her education and take up a job just to support her family. It broke my heart when she mentioned that she doesn’t have any pictures of her childhood as they lost everything. But now she has achieved so much because she never gave up. She has become one of the worlds recognised upcoming fashion designers.Thats her story.

At some point in life, we are bound to encounter some challenges. It does not matter how big or small they may be, what really matters is the attitude we develop towards them. You may choose to indulge in self pity but know that it never erases the problem. From Korto’s story we see that positive attitude is what we need in everyday life. Always hope for the better.  Do not let your problems define you rather do the opposite.Remeber, Oprah Winefry  never gave up, Henry Ford never gave up, Nelson Mandela never gave up ,and I could go on. So why should you give up your dreams? You could defer them but never let them die. Like Zig Ziglar would say ‘If you can dream it then you can achieve it’. Whatever difficulty you may be passing, don’t let them be an excuse for not becoming all that you want to be. The big question is, do you use your problems as an excuse for your current condition? Have you given up hope on your deferred dreams? Have you had a rough past and you don’t see the point in trying again?

What exactly is your story?

Lily.
